Mission to Germany
Last Updated Jan 2022
Dear Reverends, Brothers and Sisters,
Now that the new year has arrived, I bless you all with the best this year, and pray that God gives you strength to serve in his kingdom. Looking back on last year, it was full of challenges, but we also experienced God's blessing throughout the year.
Evangelism
During the continued epidemic in Germany, people's family lives and social lives are shrinking. They are more willing to stay inside their houses. Because of general cautiousness, the Chinese here are more aware of this situation. They are more alert to strangers. The Christians of our church have lived in Germany for a very long time. They are all influenced by German culture and thinking. They all became very cautious. They worry that they may disturb others, which makes evangelism more difficult.
In order to change this situation, we challenged brothers and sisters of the church last November. We shared the importance of evangelism, and encouraged everyone to trust God, put down anxiety and preach the gospel. Brothers and sisters had a very positive response. They are also willing to share their convictions. Everyone prays for continued courage to evangelize. Finally, everyone is determined to pray for their friends that they will know God. In the meantime, we will communicate with them and show compassion. We expect to share the gospel through evangelism or pastoral visits very soon.
We can see that when brothers and sisters went back home, they were very positive and motivated. First, they are growing out of their shyness and timidity. Second, they will contact their friends and neighbors and do more evangelism. We invited one friend to join our Bible Study, who’s attendance is very stable till now. Some neighbors are willing to join our Christmas activities as well. However, most importantly our brothers and sisters are motivated to share the gospel again, so evangelism is put into action instead of only being in our thoughts and prayers.
Bring Good News
Christmas is about to come soon. Our brothers and sisters will get together to bring the good news to friends and neighbors. Since we never had this type of activity before, they are full of curiosity and uncertainty and they feel uneasy. But thank the Lord, they are all very positive and passionately want to connect with their friends. We gathered some gifts (including a Chinese calendar from Chinese Library {Overseas Campus Ministries} and gospel magazines and pamphlets {CCM}) and delivered it to our neighborhood’s houses. Thank God that every family received us with warm hospitality. They even want us to stay longer to chat and talk. These encouraging moments not only help brothers and sisters put aside the discouraging "feeling of unease” and their fear of sharing the gospel with friends, but also build up the foundation for future visits.
During this "Bring Good News" activity, we met some Chinese people. Some of them are asking for directions when they come across us in the supermarkets. When we deliver them the present and have a small chat with them, they show their interest towards gospel. This is God’s grace towards us, and this brings even more excitement to our brothers and sisters to continue to see God's amazing work, and they are even more courageous to spread the gospel.
Besides the above, we also send presents to some Chinese restaurants and a Chinese family clinic. We send not only presents, but also hope. This activity was a very good chance to spread the gospel and let people know about Jesus.
Christmas Gathering
"May we give glory to God in the highest. Peace on earth to those who please God." We held a Sunday service on the theme of "A Peaceful Christmas". Due to the epidemic, we have had meetings through online live streams for more than 2 years. Therefore, this face-to-face meeting was a real blessing to all our brothers and sisters. They all participate wholeheartedly. Everyone came to church early to help decorate and provide technical support, to welcome friends and prepare presents. They all put in their best effort. After the service, brothers and sisters have a sincere and friendly chat with friends. In the following days, there were new comers who told us that they were very happy to join our programs. They felt warm during the service, and if they have time, they will definitely come again.
During this Christmas worship, we have Christmas carols, Christmas presentations, bible sharing, etc. in order to show the Gospel to the people. We hope that these messages may give people peace from the Lord.
Finally, may all of you continue to pray for us in Heidelberg :-
1 During the past 2 years, all students in Heidelberg University have online classes. This has made contact with these students almost impossible. In addition, some students have left Heidelberg, so evangelism with the oversea students is difficult to maintain. May God bless us through other ways that we can still meet more students and preach the Gospel to them.
2 Pray that God will continue to ignite the passion of brothers and sisters to be more conscious and courageous in evangelism, and to be equipped and continue to witness to others.
3 In this "Bring Good News" program, we met some Chinese people. We have contacted them and will visit them soon to introduce our faith to them. May the Lord prepare their hearts that they will accept our visit and positively receive the gospel.
4 Pray for our family in both our physical health and spiritual lives. Gao Ming C Mo and 2 children have had colds and fever in the past months. After the Christmas meeting, my son got a fever and chickenpox. This is contagious. This affected our family lives and we cannot perform visitation ministry. May God bless us through these difficulties.
May God bless you all.
